Terror Green – 1995 Demo EP

Monday, November 4th, 2013

Heavy Jewelz Records brings one of the most sought after Stretch And Bobbito played demos of all time, complete with a co-sign from Bobbito himself, and the 2 previously unheard tracks are just about as ill as 45 Stitchez and Check Tha File. Thanks to Dj Nastee for digging out the DATS so the world could finally hear the flow that should have at least gone gold but never did due to labels.

Da Buze Bruvaz

Tuesday, September 17th, 2013

Not many indie hip-hop labels these days churn out as much vinyl as Chopped Herring. While sites like Sandboxautomatic, HipHopsite, Fat Beats and UGHH used to be the main spots to cop our vinyl, its now the DIY labels producing and pushing the wax these days. The art of collecting records has become fun once again thanks to great releases. Artists are still starving and with the help of new age technology and social media, sending and receiving music is almost too convenient.  Lost DATS, unreleased demos and lo-fi recordings are finding their way to our Tech 12’s with the help of labels like Chopped Herring, Dopefolks, DWG, No Sleep and Heavy Jewelz.

Most recently, CH put out a Da Buze Bruvas EP, a duo hailing from Philly, consisting of Him-LO and Clever One. Imagine the street knowledge of Beanie Sigel with the wit of Sean Price, and that is what you get with the Bruvas. I know I am not alone when I say hearing this kind of “gutter rap” in 2013 sounding polished, yet coarse at the same time is a thing of beauty. Da Buze Bruvaz have made me a believer again.  Read more about them in our discussion thread.

For the vinyl lovers out there, make sure you cop the Da Buze Bruvaz releases here.

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Yasheen Allah and his Murder-1 Squad are from Brooklyn and that’s pretty much all that we know about this artist. This  was released on GNU Breed records and it was produced by D. Trotman.

What do we have here is simply amazing, hardcore, grimey and very rare release that definitely should not be slept on anymore.

***This is not full VLS, it missing 2 tracks (Bring It [radio edit] and Bring It [instrumental]).

DJ Cesare – Public Enemy White Label Turntable Megamix (1987)

Friday, April 12th, 2013

Because it’s Friday and because it’s incredibly dope.

from DJ Cesare: My 1987 white label turntable megamix of Public Enemy’s first album ‘Yo! Bum Rush The Show.’

I know I grabbed this vinyl off of another blog several years ago, and this is only side a. Maybe Cesare will post side b too. Released as a white label promo in 1988. Drop were DJ Cesare with engineer Pete Smith. It was recorded “live” using only 2 turntables and a mixer, layering beats and scratches onto an 8 track tape machine in Gee Street Records’ basement. Thanks to Striclty Kev and Megatrip for pointing this one out.

Big Daddy Kane vs Ultramagnetic MC’s – Unreleased EP

Saturday, February 16th, 2013

It’s a bootleg, but a perfectly acceptable bootleg to most of us since it’s the only way we’ll ever own these songs or even be able to listen to them in full. Some of you may remember a while ago on ebay this never seen before Ultramagnetic acetate sold for over $3000 and all of us, psychotic vinyl crack addicts and regular golden era rap heads too,  died a little bit when we realized we’d probably never hear that full song that was obviously intended for play on the now defunct KISS FM radio.
