Random VLS Drops: Yasheen & The Murder-1 Squad – Bring It! (1994)

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Yasheen Allah and his Murder-1 Squad are from Brooklyn and that’s pretty much all that we know about this artist. This  was released on GNU Breed records and it was produced by D. Trotman.

What do we have here is simply amazing, hardcore, grimey and very rare release that definitely should not be slept on anymore.

***This is not full VLS, it missing 2 tracks (Bring It [radio edit] and Bring It [instrumental]).

Enjoy!

DJ Cesare – Public Enemy White Label Turntable Megamix (1987)

Friday, April 12th, 2013

Because it’s Friday and because it’s incredibly dope.

from DJ Cesare: My 1987 white label turntable megamix of Public Enemy’s first album ‘Yo! Bum Rush The Show.’

I know I grabbed this vinyl off of another blog several years ago, and this is only side a. Maybe Cesare will post side b too. Released as a white label promo in 1988. Drop were DJ Cesare with engineer Pete Smith. It was recorded “live” using only 2 turntables and a mixer, layering beats and scratches onto an 8 track tape machine in Gee Street Records’ basement. Thanks to Striclty Kev and Megatrip for pointing this one out.

Random VLS Drops: Lastrawze – Big Respect / Come On In / Sneak Peek (199X)

Lastrawze is a group from Miami, Florida. It was consisted of Mr. Vibe, Grand Phunk and D-Rhythm. This release is off their unreleased album “Instrawmental“, originally recorded in 1995 but released in 2010. All of the production was held by Simeon Hinds.

I ran onto several different informations considering the year of this release, some say 1995, other 1997, so i left out the exact year of the release.

Recently, Intrawmental EP Part 1 and Part 2 was released on Dope Folks, 300 limited copies only and was sold out immediately.

Big Daddy Kane vs Ultramagnetic MC’s – Unreleased EP

Saturday, February 16th, 2013

It’s a bootleg, but a perfectly acceptable bootleg to most of us since it’s the only way we’ll ever own these songs or even be able to listen to them in full. Some of you may remember a while ago on ebay this never seen before Ultramagnetic acetate sold for over $3000 and all of us, psychotic vinyl crack addicts and regular golden era rap heads too,  died a little bit when we realized we’d probably never hear that full song that was obviously intended for play on the now defunct KISS FM radio. The Pharcyde “Phriday Phun Pack #12”

Friday, May 11th, 2012

And just like that, it’s already been 12 weeks and time to wrap this series up. Along the way I’ve learned a few things. One, I always thought Slim Kid Tre and Fatlip were my favorite members. And maybe they were from the Bizarre Ride time period. But though this process I have certainly gained an incredible appreciation for Booty Brown and Imani. Two, I just have to accept that Bizzare Ride came along at just the right point in my life. No matter how badly I want a reunion or some new recording sessions to happen, Bizzare Ride will never be duplicated. Three, that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Four guys, four different styles, one incredible group. Plus tons of incredible producers! J-Sw!ft, LA JAY, Jay Dee and Buckwild just to name a few. And let’s not forget Quinton. He’s on his way with another J. And everything’s ok.

Here’s the final breakdown. A dope Nu-Mark remix that popped up as a b-side during the RMXXOLOGY release. Was it just not submitted in time to make the album cut? Second, I picked up this beautiful instrumental in 2006 but only recently found out that it got the full remix treatment with vocals. In the #3 position is a real treat. The “Soul Flower (Bare Bones Edit)” track is a far-from-polished project that will never be finished. Originally planned as a five song series to go with the recent “Singles Collection” box set, this remix of sorts was built using the original multitrack and it never made it past the concept stage. It was created by breaking down the beat from its dense layers into separate parts, using only one section at a time (hence the ‘bare bones’ nickname). Nothing new was added except for a few echo filters, but the powers that be weren’t feeling the idea so it got scrapped before the other four edits were begun. Next is some more Spaceboy Boogie X who has made a few appearances throughout this series. And the last track is a Mick Boogie special. From what I can remember, it was a mash-up he did after working on the promo mix for Peter Bjorn and John. And unusual pairing that he more than pulls off.

Phriday Phun Pack #12
01 The Pharcyde-4 Better Or 4 Worse (DJ Nu-Mark Remix) (2008)
02 Visioneers feat. The Pharcyde-Runnin’ (Visioneers Remix) (2007)
03 The Pharcyde-Soul Flower (Bare Bones Edit) (2011)
04 Spaceboy Boogie X feat. Booty Brown-Back & Forth (2008)
05 The Pharcyde & Peter Bjorn and John-Nothing To Pass By (Mick Boogie Mix) (2009)

And who knows, if I find more quality material down the road I’d be happy to put some more packs together.

The Pharcyde “Phriday Phun Pack #11”

Friday, May 4th, 2012

Here we go again. 2nd to last pack and I hope that everyone has been enjoying this series. First up is a SoundCloud gem from DJ Phaze (what’s up Perth?) followed by another solo track from Bootie Brown, different spelling than usual, then a collabo with a former NFL wide receiver from the Carolina Panthers. Next we come to the mystery instrumental. This one popped up on  a cd single back in 2000 and I always assumed it would have been used on Lip’s album, had it not be delayed for 5 years. Or maybe it was just an extra beat from Edy Crahp who produced a couple other tracks for Fatlip. And taking the #5 slot is nice vinyl only remix coming out of Hyogo, Japan.

Suggestions are always welcome, pheel phree to leave a comment. Although time is running out.

Phriday Phun Pack #11
01 The Pharcyde-Passin By Clarence Reid (itsphizzle remix) (2011?)
02 Bootie Brown-I Smoke (2003)
03 The Pharcyde & Raghib “Rocket” Ismail-Gotcha Lookin’ (1996)
04 Fatlip-Edy’s Groove (Instrumental) (2000)
05 The Pharcyde-Runnin’ (Remix by Shin-Ski of Martiangang) (2010)
