Mannish – Jive U The Mann (video)

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Remember Mannish?

Mannish was a duo, Jekill and Jive, from Los Angeles. They released their album Audio Sedative in 1995 on Correct Records, the same label that issued Al’ Tariq’s God Connections. Their most recognizable tracks are “Expect That”, “Mannish”, “Tasha’s Room” and “Jive U The Mann”. On the scratches they had DJ Nu-Mark, whom you probably know as a DJ and producer in the Jurassic 5.

Im guessing you all have watched their video for “Expect That”, but i have always thought there must be at least one more video, either for “Tasha’s Room” or “Jive U The Mann” so i went on youtube few days ago and typed those two titles and there it goes, video for “Jive U The Mann”

Big Daddy Kane – Documentary (45 mins)

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Another treat from the T.R.O.Y. forum. I have no idea how this turned out or when this is officially dropping but if Michael Rapaport can do a film on A Tribe Called Quest, then surely somebody can do something on the Juice Crew. Peace to fatboybrandon for the post as well as Blackout Hip-Hop too. –Philaflava

“World Supreme Hip Hop” Sneak Preview – Freshco & Miz Documentary

Monday, June 27th, 2011

Stop what you’re doing. Forget about a bunch of mostly technically deficient LA teen skaters and their bumbling raised-on-the-internet DJ. Forget about brain damaged, promethazine addled Bay Area hipster bait novelty acts getting put on by a still-racist industry. Worry not about the failed fantasy league camp project consisting of a titanically egotistical Mount Vernon producer and a perpetually underperforming Brooklyn duo. Concentrate on this fifteen minute sneak peak into a documentary on Frescho & Miz:

This is the story of two young perfectionists (average, NON-gangster types) from distant cities who once won the World Rap and DJ contests in the same year and then joined forces (the finals were aired on MTV – Sponsored by Word Up! magazine). Re-live their rise to Hip Hop fame and see how they impacted the culture before suddenly disappearing from the music scene.

CAMEOS INCLUDE: Ice T, Ice Cube, DJ Enuff, MC Lyte, Treach, Kool DJ Red Alert, Monie Love, Dres, Phife, Yo-Yo, D Nice, MC Serch, Ed Lover & Dr. Dre, Guru, and DJ Wiz of Kid N Play.

Don’t speak of “random rap,” or “has-beens” or “also-rans” or the “geographical prejudice of the accepted canon.” Sit down, shut up and joyously watch the footage in the sneak peak. There’s a goddamned 1990 cipher with Freshco, LONS, and Dres. Footage of Grand Puba rocking live. Freshco and Miz’s virtuosic performances. This is just the sneak peak. Be excited about this even though it appears to have a budget of $100 and won’t generate much interest. Live your life, goddamnit. Big up to Verge for finding this.

Saafir – “Just Riden” (video)

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

When listening to Boxcar Sessions and I hear “Just Riden” I often wondered why this track doesn’t have a video even though it was released as a single. I was pretty much shocked at the end of January when I saw this video posted in “Music Videos You Never Knew Existed” thread by Jayou Ayen. If you haven’t seen it so far  you have a chance now. Enjoy! — Markshot

Earthquake – 9.9 Richter Scale

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Still remember Unfadable and its video?

Remember the hype and how almost all of us had only the “Unfadable” video rip in a form of an mp3?

Not long ago while watching some random videos on youtube, I came across the “Unfadable” video which reminded me to find out if a good rip of the VLS was available. In searching, I found the album.

So, let’s hear if the Maryland MC can deliver as much dopeness as he did with Unfadable.

Enjoy!
