Stretch and Bobbito – 8/13/98

Sunday, February 13th, 2011

Over at the TROY Forum Jesse Velasquez provided us with this gem from his personal collection:

Whats up everybody. I picked this up at the NYC Fat Beats (R.I.P.) back in 98. This one features Big L doing some freestlyes and some other shit. Some of the tracks are pretty solid. Enjoy.

Trugoy The Dove – Roadrunner

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

Well, first of all thanks to Roy Johnson for discovering this track.

Second, in case you missed it in Roy’s De La Soul Is Dead Ear Rarities post from our Native Tongue Month, here it is now.

Track came out of Stretch & Bobbito rarities tape. We don’t know exact story behind this, but since Trugoy is credited with writing the lyrics to the song, we can safely assume he recorded this as a reference vocal track for Chi-Ali.

Enjoy!

Stretch And Bobbito Focus Continues: Demos & Promos (Terror Green, Akinyele, Timbuktu, etc.)

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Thanks to Irish Craig for this tape cover. Peep his blog out here for some other goodies.

You will be blessed here, believe that. But first I wanted to apologize to our readers for the down right screwy way that Stretch and Bobbito Month went down. As you probably know, our blogspot was closed down dead in the middle of SnB month which made it look like this project was brought to a cease. But it’s not, we’re going to extend this for as long as necessary. Of course, all of the posts here will not be related to SnB, but we will still steadily bring you much coverage and have an impressive arsenal on the way. So stay tuned. Press “read the rest of this entry” for some exclusive (to the internet) treats below… (more…)

The History of Hip Hop Radio (Stretch & Bobbito, etc.)

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

When it originally started, even though hip hop radio, specifically New York hip hop radio, made up less than five percent of all radio, it quickly became integral to New York and the surrounding communities, a sub-culture within the culture, exclusively for people who were in the right place at the right time and knew what was up.

Soon a small number of shows and an even smaller amount of stations (and people) would go on to both directly and indirectly influence a large portion of music, unbeknownst in the moment to a lot of the fans and even some of the artists.

T.R.O.Y. briefly covered this (a couple times in years past actually) during the start of the T.R.O.Y. Blog, when forum member Irish Craig first threw it up on his blog. Some people inevitably slept and now we’re bringin’ it back for the full feature to get everybody the right mindset for listening to Stretch & Bobbito and rap radio in general, hopefully giving those who are unaware a basic idea of what else was going on at the time.

Exclusive Interview Status: Bobbito Garcia

Monday, November 8th, 2010

Bobbito at Central Park 2010, PE and Blitz the Ambassador show
Two days before the already renowned 20th anniversary re-union of the Stretch Armstrong Show hosted by Bobbito aired, Bob was kind enough to take some time out of his crazy busy schedule to answer some questions and chat with me via rotary connection steez telephone call.

Since leaving WKCR, Bobbito has moved on in major ways. He dj’s internationally, has another label called Álala Records, Bounce Mag, and still spins at the local NY spots on the reg, amongst many other things. It’s so great to see that a good cat like Bob is still able to maintain and even move forward on a consistent basis. Just like the show brought us the raw every single time, KBL still brings it as often and as intense as ever.

Read the condensed version of the interview, by clicking on the “read more” button. And make sure you click on some of the links as you get deeper into the interview as it makes for a better “reading experience”. Heh.

And here’s the audio.

Preserving The Culture Ep.1 – Perce-verance (Percee P)

Monday, October 25th, 2010

Here’s an episode of “Preserving The Culture” Featuring A-FS & Percee P with special guest Dj Lord Ron. Percee P talks about everything you could think of asking him. Everyone needs to listen to this!! From Big L to Scott La Rock, Red Alert, Organized Konfusion, Stretch & Bobbito, Almighty Kay Gee, Cold Crush Brothers, Lord Finesse, A.G., Maestro Fresh Wes, Old School Tapes, … Everything. One thing for example that I didn’t know before the interview (and I’m a big Percee P fan) is that he had a cameo in Big L’s MVP video. Enjoy y’all!
