This is just a piece of the history and is not an entire history of the scene in Seattle, but does include 8 pages of stories, artists, timelines and personal all time favorites during that period of time.

Sir Mix-A-Lot

Fact #1: the first hip hop tape I ever bought was Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Swass” and I still listen to it every couple of months. I recently saw one of those VH1 shows where they talk about the 100 greatest tracks of the 90′s. There was a clip of Sir Mix-A-Lot and Fact #2: he sure as hell isn’t sorry that he ever made “Baby Got Back” as it has made him a VERY rich man.

While most people only know him from his chart topping hit, he had a nice career going long before that way up in Seattle. Most people will say that Sir Mix-A-Lot is an acquired taste, but there is no certainly denying his sharp delivery and his deep catalog.

Shouts to cicarista and dochiphop from the forum for pulling this comp together. Bit rates and quality of the tracks are all over the place, but it is what it is… and it’s fucking sweet. I did my best to order it chronologically, and if you have anything else to add, please leave a comment.
