Random VLS Drops: Omniscence – Amazin’ (1995) – Reupped

Sunday, April 1st, 2012

UPDATE: A few months ago we received an email from a Hot 97 DJ (first name rhymes with leader) to re-up this. Unfortunately, we can’t always fulfill these  requests as fast as we’d like since we do receive a high amount of them daily. However, when we do normally update the link we also post an update in the comment section. I highly recommend anyone to join the T.R.O.Y. forum where requests usually get fulfilled within hours. Peace to all those who have continued to support this blog and those who help us frequently on the boards with requests. And for those who wanted this re-upped, this one is for you!

Omniscence or Omniscience is from North Carolina. He has an EP “The Funky Oneliner” in 1993 on 6th Boro Records. After appearing in The Source’s “Unsigned Hype” he has been spotted by EastWest Records /Elektra sealed the deal and released two singles after eventually being dropped by Elektra. His album “The Raw Factor” was never released.

Big up to my homie Verge. Random VLS Drops is his blog idea and he was blessing you with them vinyl rips from his own collection, unfortunately i’m not in that situation.

Enjoy! Tracklist and download links after the jump.

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

Stezo is a rapper and producer from New Haven, Connecticut. Before his rapping career, he was a dancer for EPMD and appeared in their video “You Gots To Chill” from their debut album Strictly Business (1988). Soon after that, he sought solo career as an hip hop artist and in 1989  he got deal with Sleeping Bag Records (Fresh Records) and released his debut solo album “Crazy Noise“, following two hit singles “Freak The Funk” and “It’s My Turn”. Despite all of the praise he got for his debut album, Stezo just disappeared and after 5 years of laying low, he came back and released this single that we are prezenting you now.

Random VLS Drops – A Lighter Shade Of Brown “Dip Into My Ride” (1994)

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Lighter Shade Of Brown was chicano hiphop duo (One Dope Mexican [ODM)] & Don’t Try To Xerox [DTTX]) from Riverside, CA. They were best known for their single “On A Sunday Afternoon” off their debut album Brown & Proud (1990).

This single is from their 3rd album “Layin’ In The Cut” (1994), which dropped on the Mercury label.

It’s a slow summer jam, but i prefer Bobby’s mix:

Giants Of The Industry (Jazzy Jay and Busy Bee) – Get Busy (1987)

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

I DON’T KNOW THE STORY WITH THIS RECORD.IT’S BUSY BEE AND JAZZY JAY-2 NEW YORK GUYS THROUGH AND THROUGH-BUT THE RECORD HAS AN L.A. ADDRESS.I REALIZE THE LABEL IS MOST DEFINITELY REALLY JUST A BUSY BEE/GENCO OLIVE OIL OPERATION,BUT WHY WAS IT BASED ON THE WEST COAST?COULD IT BE THAT SOMEBODY MUST HAVE HAD SOME TAX AND/OR RECORD COMPANY ISSUES BACK IN 1987??…MISTER BEE,I’M LOOKING IN YR DIRECTION…AS FAR AS THE WAX GOES,I HAD NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE THIS AFTERNOON.NOR HAD I ANY IDEA IT EVEN EXISTED.I FOUND IT AT NYC’S BEST RECORD STORE-A-1 ON 6TH STREET

Spotted via Ministry Of Information, where you can download mp3s of the tracks.

Anyone have any additional info on this? Is this the same “Get Busy” that appears on Busy Bee’s 1988 album Runnin Thangs, produced entirely by Jazzy Jay? Seems like it, but even if so, what’s up with this piece of wax?
