Random VLS Drops: Omniscence – Amazin’ (1995) – Reupped

Sunday, April 1st, 2012

UPDATE: A few months ago we received an email from a Hot 97 DJ (first name rhymes with leader) to re-up this. Unfortunately, we can’t always fulfill these  requests as fast as we’d like since we do receive a high amount of them daily. However, when we do normally update the link we also post an update in the comment section. I highly recommend anyone to join the T.R.O.Y. forum where requests usually get fulfilled within hours. Peace to all those who have continued to support this blog and those who help us frequently on the boards with requests. And for those who wanted this re-upped, this one is for you!

Omniscence or Omniscience is from North Carolina. He has an EP “The Funky Oneliner” in 1993 on 6th Boro Records. After appearing in The Source’s “Unsigned Hype” he has been spotted by EastWest Records /Elektra sealed the deal and released two singles after eventually being dropped by Elektra. His album “The Raw Factor” was never released.

Big up to my homie Verge. Random VLS Drops is his blog idea and he was blessing you with them vinyl rips from his own collection, unfortunately i’m not in that situation.

Enjoy! Tracklist and download links after the jump.

iLLSTYLE LIVE! ‘Music from the Elektra Entertainment’ (CD 1995)

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Here is the super rare promo cd version of “iLLSTYLE LIVE!” from 1995. Some of you probably already have the vinyl rip but guess what? I had it too, it’s time to forget about the cracks and pops and upgrade to the digital version.

The IllStyle Live LP was a live recording promoting all the rap acts from Elektra Records & EastWest Records. They had artists like Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Das EFX, Supernatural, The Juggaknots, 8-Off, … As you might already know, most of the artists were left with shelved albums. Luckily, a few of these albums leaked throughout the years.

While all the performances are on point, there isn’t anything close to the Ol’ Dirty session. ODB mentions how he didn’t want to come to the show on some classic funny ish. He then rocks a freestyle with Buddha Monk and 60 Second Assassin then starts to talk again and finally performs Brooklyn Zoo & Shimmy Shimmy Ya. Pete Rock is also the DJ of the night.

Ego Trip included iLLSTYLE LIVE! on their “Official All-The-Way-Live Albums” list. It still remains one of the greatest live performances ever released on wax to this day!

1. Intro
2. Daddy D – Luv On A Dub
3. Omniscence – Amazin’
4. Juggaknotz – I’m Gonna Kill You
5. Lin Que – Let It Fall
6. 8-Off – Ghetto Girl
7. Deda Baby Pa – Blah Uno
8. Coz – No Place Like Tha Hood
9. Interlude
10. Supernatural – Natural Disaster
11. Das Efx – Real Hip Hop
12. Ol’ Dirty Bastard – Freestyle/ Brooklyn Zoo/ Shimmy Shimmy Ya

mid-atlantic hip hop vol 1 (1993-1998)

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Hang on to the wheel high rollers, here’s a taste of hip hop from the ‘mid-atlantic’ for your ears today. Check the tracklist for year and location info. A few of these tracks combine styles and the blend is hot. Culturally, the mid-atlantic region is a mix of old world east coast mentality, and southern ‘show me’ practicality. Perhaps it’s not ironic that many people from Maryland or Virginia identify themselves as southerners even though they are east coast as New York for instance. New England is an area unto itself, and so is the mid-atlantic.

Play it in your living room, bump it in your car. This one will have you hitting rewind. Here’s your meat and taters.
