Take It Personal Podcast (Ep 4: Wu-Tang Tribute)

Thursday, January 12th, 2017

To many, Staten Island is known as the dump. To us hip-hop heads, it’s known as Shaolin, the home of the Wu-Tang Clan. Who would have thought a group of 9 rappers would have changed the game, but they definitely did. Nobody has ever done hip-hop like WTC and I’m pretty sure nobody ever will. While The Wu is one of the most respected and beloved group of all-time, a two hour tribute doesn’t seem long enough. That said, here is our tribute that should help remind you that Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta F*ck Wit!

T&B Presents… Heroes In Your Headphones

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

Tired & Broke from the Philaflava forum posted a nice new comic and video game themed compilation this morning. Here’s what he had to say:

With the conclusion of E3 2012 last week and Comic-Con 2012 about a month away (and to try to bring more traffic to Electric Relaxation) I figured now would be a great time to drop this mix since gaming and comics are fresh on everyone’s mind.

It’s no secret the subject of Comics and Video Games have been a heavy subject matter and source of inspiration in the world of Hip-Hop for over 2 decades. There’s been entire soundtracks dedicated to it, and several independent artists have made “theme” albums based around a sole Character. Other artists have successfully based the majority of their career around Comic Book characters; Hero and Villain alike.

“T&B Presents… Heroes In Your Headphones” is a custom soundtrack I made of a collection of songs based around the theme of Hip-Hop, Comics and Video Games. Whether its the main topic of the song or the track has sampled elements from a gaming franchise or comic book cartoon series.

Enjoy.

PS: Mega Shoutout to the homey dirt_dog on the custom cover!! Son put in work in a short amount of time and looked out in a major way.

01 Last Emperor – Secret Wars Part 1
02 Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire – Galactus Redux

Wu-Tang Forever?

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Who ever thought we’d see the day our beloved Wu Tang members would desperately cling for relevancy? There is no denying the Wu is one of the greatest, most influential and successful groups of all-time. Growing up there was point when every Wu release was met with tremendous excitement and copped with ease. Even the Wu affiliates were copped, every one from Shyheim to GP Wu to Killarmy all the way to Royal Fam.

They’ve been responsible for a plethora of classics, both solo and collective efforts. But if we’re all being honest here, we know the last release that was truly worthy of its praise was the ’09 Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. II. Way before that and certainly well after, there hasn’t been much and when I say before that, I meant for a long period of time. Once the dust settled and the hype dissolved, we later realized albums such as 8 Diagrams or the 11 year old Iron Flag were simply not up to par. They were not how we wanted to remember the Wu. Masta Killa (off No Said Date) (Chinese Sample)

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Song: Masta Killa – Masta Killa (2004) Produced by Baby Dooks

Original Sample: 王昭君(粤语) 刘君儿 广东民歌

This is probably my favorite song from No Said Date. I had been looking for this sample ever since I heard the album. I even asked people on forums but no one knew. Glad I found it!

Props to Strategy for assisting in the tagging of all these tracks and of course Kalel. The man who has been the mastermind behind all these dope album covers for the past 10 months.

Unfortunately, Volume 10 will be the last for Kalel. He’s blowin’ up, making moves and leaving us for bigger and better things. We wish him the best and want to thank him for everything he’s done for T.R.O.Y.

Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style/ Taste The Pain (Soundtrack 1999)

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

In 1999, the video game “Wu Tang: Shaolin Style” was released for the PlayStation. It was titled “Taste The Pain” in PAL territories. It was a fighting game based on the Wu-Tang Clan’s kung fu influence. Wu Tang: Shaolin Style was poorly received by many video game reviewers but anyway, my intention is to post the soundtrack not the video game. The PlayStation disc had its soundtrack which was playable on every music cd player. It featured every song that was exclusively made for the game.

1. La The Darkman & RZA – Wu World Order
2. U-God – Rumble (Feat. Inspectah Deck, Letha Face, & Method Man)
3. Masta Killa – Shaolin Temple
4. Tekitha – Back To 36 (Take It Back)
5. La The Darkman & RZA – Wu World Order (Instrumental)
6. U-God – Rumble (Instrumental) (Prod. By True Master)
7. RZA – Instrumental #1
8. RZA – Instrumental #2
9. RZA – Instrumental #3
10. RZA – Jungle Instrumental #1
11. RZA – Jungle Instrumental #2
12. RZA – Jungle Instrumental #3
13. La The Darkman & RZA – Wu World Order (Chorus Acapella)
14. RZA – Jungle Instrumental #4
