Southern Series Volumes 14-16 (1989-1998)

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Sharing these compilation series is always a balancing act for me. I want people to be able to collect my east coast 12 inch series in a relatively short period of time. On the other hand I find myself ignoring other series that probably deserve more shine than they get. Case in point, my southern series. Today we’ve got volumes 14-16 up for grabs. There’s a good mix between boom bap and gangster rap so keep your minds open and your ears tuned.

Southern Series Volumes 8 & 9 (1991-1995)

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Thought I’d bring you a couple more southern compilations today. It’s been raining like hell up here in Oregon, and my mind is drifting south. I’m so ready for summer it’s not even funny. Someplace like Atlanta would be perfect right about now. It’s with these thoughts I share volumes 8 and 9 for you. You’ll probably notice Mr Bonuts on other compilations of mine, for good reason. ‘Funk Wit Da Flow’ is one of my favorite cuts of any artist, anywhere, from any year. A dark moody beat, a raw heavy bassline, tasty guitar licks, a few ragga-style hooks. Yep, Mr Bonuts is heroin for the ears. Another standout would have to be ‘Sweet Georgia Bound’. The production and lyrics are a little melancholy but it’s a tune I think you’ll remember long after you hear it. Make what you will of the booty music from Dj Magic Mike. His ‘Southern Hospitality’ album with T-Isaam is another matter entirely though. I’ve said it before, but if there’s anything that you really like and want to hear more of let me know. I’d be glad to share the full albums/eps the tracks are taken from. In the meantime check out volumes 8 and 9 from my southern series.
