Tuesday, February 20th, 2018

On episode 23, we’re joined by Evidence, who just released his 3rd solo album Weather or Not. We cover everything from his passion for photography to growing up with QDIII and Red Foo (LMFAO) as well as memories of making scrambled eggs with James “Sonny Corleone” Caan. We talk Rhymesayers, Kanye West, Dilated & Alchemist too. Is there another Step Brothers album in the works? Who are his favorite producers of all-time? What’s DJ Premier like to work with? We got the answers Sway. We even play a game of 6 degrees of Evidence.

In addition to a grip of Ev tracks, we have music from Apathy, Grand Analog, Skyzoo, Freddie Gibbs, J Dilla, A$AP Rocky, David Banner, Rapsody, Q-Tip, Kurious and Ghostface Killah. From all of us @ TIP, our hearts go out to all the family, friends and students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The gun control conversation has to be discussed all day, everyday until change is finally made. The future is ours! We dedicate this episode to all our neighbors in Parkland and our good friend James Murphy. Rest in peace.

To celebrate The Halftime Show’s 12th Anniversary, DJ Eclipse had a crazy lineup of mc’s rhyming in the booth over beats from Krysis, DJ Babu, & DJ Scratch. MC’s included legendary Flavor Unit member Chill Rob G, Sadat X, Rhymefest, Torae, Skyzoo, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Tiye Phoenix, Smiley The Ghetto Child, Chace Infinite, Illa Ghee and many more. They also had DJ breaks with the legendary X-Men (aka The X-Ecutioners). For the people who were tuning in live, you were able to see the whole show on video being broadcasted through Ustream.. unfortunately they weren’t able to record it. They just posted the live recording from the radio a couple hours ago. Enjoy!

The Bomb DJ’s – Return of the DJ Vol. 1 (1995)

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Return of the DJ, Vol. 1 is a 1995 compilation released by Bomb Hip-Hop Records. This project was the first all dj/all scratching (turntablism) album ever released. My copy is actually the original independent pressing from 1995 but it was later re-released with a full-color artwork in 2000 which you can easily find online for a few bucks. Not only is this the first turntablism album ever, it actually features the greatest dj’s doing their best cuts all in one compilation! This is classic material! You won’t even miss the mc!

1. Kool DJ E.Q. – Death Of Hip-Hop
2. DJ Ghetto – Ghetto On The Cut
3. Rob Swift – Rob Get’s Busy
4. Jeep Beat Collective – The Bomb Drops
5. Beat Junkies – Scratch Monopoly II
6. Invisible Scratch Pickles – Invasion Of The Octopus People
7. DJ Z-Trip – U Can Get With Discs Or U Can Get With D.A.T.
8. Peanut Butter Wolf – The Chronicles (I Will Always Love H.E.R.)
9. Mix Master Mike – Terrorwrist (Beneath The Under)
10. ASAP Productions – The Track
11. Cut Chemist – Lesson 4: The Radio
12. DJ Babu – Suckas (Sucka DJ Dis)

Positive K – A Good Combination (Kan Kick Remix) 1995

Monday, September 14th, 2009

I first heard this version on a random remix compilation that was posted on WYDU in ’07. I had the song in constant rotation but I never knew where it was from and when it was made. Since I knew that it wasn’t on Positive K’s first album The Skills Dat Pay Da Bills“, I though to myself, could he had released it on 12”.. maybe in ’95? I tried to do some research but nothing came out. A couple months after that, a Positive K compilation Back to the Old School” was released on CD. I immediately saw “A Good Combination” on the tracklist. Once I got my hands on the CD, I immediately skipped to the track, and guess what? It wasn’t the same version that I knew. I was really dissapointed even though I had just heard the original ’89 version. So after that, I though that it was probably just a homegrown remix. Finally, a couple weeks ago, I found that “remix” version on youtube labeled as the Kan Kick Remix. It was from Side B of DJ Babu’s Comprehension Mixtape from 1995. I immediately went to download it and when i heard it, all that searching was finally over. I cut the part from Side B and labeled it as a single mp3. It was in a way better quality than the one I had way back.. I can’t even listen to the original when I hear this remix. The original seems too plain compared to the Kan Kick version.
