Sunday, October 13th, 2013

A few weeks ago on the T.R.O.Y. forums I suggested doing a Degrees of Separation mixtape. While there were a few interested heads, it was just Huldrich Bullsh!t was able to complete the difficult task. The rules were as followed.

There has to be at least 1 Pete rock produced track
There has to be at least 1 De La Soul feature (could be Dove or Pos alone)
There has to be at least 1 Grand Puba song or feature

(Poll) Best Crooklyn Dodgers Joint?

Saturday, November 27th, 2010

Which one will prevail?

Does anyone like Part III? Is that an official sequel? Who decides such things? The Borough President?

Why did Jeru stop rapping like that?

Did Barbara Walters ever respond to Chubb Rock’s dis?

Was hot peas and butter a harmless urban pastime or ritualized violence?

Will rappers wax poetic about the old Yankee Stadium in fifteen years?

Awesome 2 “Studio Record Freestyles (1996)”

Monday, September 20th, 2010

This is another piece of audio that I received back in my trading days. I never did any research on it until now. Released in 1996 on vinyl, it features 6 nice studio recorded freestyles done for the Awesome 2, which is the legendary team Special K and Teddy Ted. It’s tough finding much info on these two as their website has been suspended (relaunching in 2010), but you can find them on MySpace.

01 Chubb Rock
02 M.O.P.
03 Jeru The Damaja & Afu Ra
04 Channel Live
05 Busta Rhymes & Rampage
06 Das EFX

Here’s a vinyl rip of Awesome 2’s “Ahooga Breakbeats” that Thomas V put up last year.

Once all the ads and videos load, you can score an Awesome 2 radio show from 1990 RIGHT HERE on DJ Marioka’s blog.

Sounds Like The 90’s (Volume 6)

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Imma try and keep this shorter than usual since I just got back from my trip. The people wanted it so you are finally getting it-TAGS!

That’s right, moving forward all SLT9’s will be mp3 player friendly containing the proper tags and artwork. Volume 6 definitely has a more rugged feel than the previous efforts. The first half showcases what NY’s been doing for the better part of the year with the new Smif N Wessun featuring the Smith Bros.

Then we give you a taste of the new Marco Polo/Torae album Double Barrel, which I suggest you clicking on that link to preview because you just might be finding yourself at Best Buy later picking it up. I haven’t finished the whole album but based off what was leaked it was reason enough for me to cop it over the weekend (@ Fat Beats too)!

Former ONYX member Sonny Seez is back with a new 28-track album and our sister blog Steady Bloggin’ were kind enough to provide 8 tracks for you to check out. I felt
“Romp” was the best of the bunch and belonged on Volume 6. DJ Premier laced Blaq Poet with another joint and then we give you the latest by Chubb Rock and Wordsmith. I know the artwork reads Wordsworth and it would make sense for them to collaborate since they’ve done it before (Prince Paul) but this is Wordsmith. It’s my fault because I told the graphic dude (Kalel) the wrong thing.

Since Pete Rock and C.L. can’t put aside their differences we’re putting their newest tracks back-2-back on letting you decide who needs who more. Next up we got Superstar Quamallah making his 4th consecutive appearance with “Bass Murder” featuring Defari Heru. Don’t forget to cop Quam’s new album Invisible Man.

Making another consecutive appearance is the homie Godamus Rhyme with another leaked track from the T.R.O.Y. project “Classically Trained.” This time God tackles The Pharcyde classic and goes 3-3 with his remakes. And since I was in such a Pharcyde kinda mood, I thought it only made sense to throw on the recently remixed O.G. version by DJ Jazzy Jeff and close out the with Jean Grae’s tribute to Biggie.

Finally we have some newer tracks by Tha Connection, Tanya Morgan and ’09’s version of “A Milli” by Nathaniel Wilson. I did add a bonus track since it doesn’t really go with the theme but the subject matter definitely fits. Galvatron78 allows all of us Nintendo nerds to reminisce with his track “Playin Nintendo.” You can find more Galvatron78 tracks by clicking here.

Well that’s it from me. Hope you all enjoy the new volume and keep sending us those tracks! –Philaflava

Last Episode of Yo! MTV Raps

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

I’m sure everybody has seen this classic freestyle session at least once. The freestyle was cut into two parts. The first part had Rakim, Krs One, Erick Sermon, Chubb Rock, and MC Serch. After the commercial, they came back with Redman, Method Man, Large Pro, Special Ed, and Craig Mack. You can also see Rampage the Last Boy Scout in the crowd; I don’t know why he didn’t appear on the freestyle. Dj Skribble was on the turntables. They rhymed over the instrumentals of It’s My Thing, Mad Izm, and Real Hip Hop(Pete Rock Remix). I’ve always loved it when Erick Sermon is rapping and the beat switches to “Real Hip Hop”.
