It’s a treat for Friday. Unfortunately, I do not have any info neither about the MC nor about the production. Just digging up gems and passing them on. Enjoy!

What do we have here is a ’96 cassette single from one time No Limit member Mac and a lady, Storm. Both of the tracks are really smooth and both of them were produced, as credited on the cover, by Mac, Storm & DJ Wop.
Mac is currently serving 30-year prison term.

Nas “Is Coming” Promo Cassette 1996

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Really nothing special on this promo sampler cassette. A Kid Capri Source freestyle and a couple excerpts of some tracks that didn’t make the album and took several years before they got released. But it was during the outro in the last 15 seconds of the tape that had always grabbed my attention. “And guest appearances by Lauren Hill, D’Angelo and Method Man…”

As we all know when “It Was Written” dropped, there were clearly no tracks with Method Man or D’Angelo. I (like many others) always assumed that those tracks were locked away in Nas’ vaults.

But according to DJ Mike Nice, “the Meth session in 96 never took place, Meth was to be on it was written but missed the studio session” and “D’angelo missed his session with Nas as well.”

Really?!? Kind of a disappointing end to the story. Well, here’s the promo tape. Side 2 is exactly the same as side 1, but I ripped it anyways. All scans are included in the rar file.

Mac Fleet is originally from Oakland, but he moved in the early ’90s to Pittsburg to stay with his grandparents.

Thanks to Rod Hilton, if i’m not wrong he’s the owner of Cash N Records, who was kind enough to provide us that  information.

Death Row “Demos & Rough Mixes”

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

I’ll start by saying that I am certainly no Death Row expert. With that now out of the way, I found this tape in my basement a few months ago and have finally got around to ripping it. I got it from another tape trader about 10 years ago and it was labeled as “Demos & Rough Mixes.” I can’t really tell if there is anything different between these tracks and the album versions. Did he just trade me a tape with hissy album tracks? If you have a good ear and can point out any differences, please leave a comment.

DJ Juice “Vol. 32” (1996)

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Another well crafted, smoothed out mixtape from DJ Juice. A great combo of hip hop with a touch of RnB. Contains some exclusives from Originoo Gunn Clappaz, a Nas freestyle and several J-Mixes.

DJ 3rd Rail: Part 3 (Wu-Tang Lesson 3)

Monday, July 26th, 2010

The final installment of three DJ 3rd Rail mixtapes tapes that I’ve ripped. Description provided by 3rd Rail.

Wu-Tang Lesson 3
Not sure what songs are on that mix. What I can tell you is that after doing part 1 & 2 I didn't know it would take off the way it did. I always stood away from doing mix tapes (yes songs were blended together and weren't somebody's demo like today) like most people. Most people put songs that I call cheating songs. You know the hits or songs you know the words to. I would use a few of those songs and bless the rest with songs you couldn't find unless you went out and purchased, singles, imports and lps and were lucking enough to come across a promo copy somewhere. By part 3 of the Wu-Tang mixes I had so much material since everyone was Wu-Tang in one way or another back then. They had so many other groups that rolled under the Wu-Tang umbrella. It was fun to put those mixes together and show the world it was more than just the core members.

Show some love and visit DJ 3rd Rail on USTREAM, YOUTUBE, his WEBSITE or EMAIL the man at DJ3RDRAIL@GMAIL.COM.

And don’t forget to grab the Gang Starr Megamix that Roy Johnson posted back in May of 2009. Or the three volume set of Akbar material also posted by Roy. Half of the tracks were from a 2 hour freestyle session with 3rd Rail.
