The Pharcyde “Phriday Phun Pack #10”

Friday, April 27th, 2012

Not too much to say about this pack. Leading off is another excellent find on SoundCloud. Artistix was kind enough to give me a nice quality file to share with everyone. He also gave me a few suggestions for what else he’d like to hear in the pack. If you like this remix, check out his other work HERE. A solo track from Imani, I don’t know about you but I’d like to hear more from Citizen Strange. A remix off the “Plain Rap” album by Scram Jones (nice list of projects he’s worked on) and another solo track, this time from Booty Brown. Rounding it out is a remix from DJ DUS (aka DJ Dusty Olivera). Not the strongest remix I’ve ever heard, but an incredibly infectious beat that has kept this remix in my rotation for years now.

Suggestions are always welcome, pheel phree to leave a comment.

Phriday Phun Pack #10
01 The Pharcyde-Ya Mama (Artistix Remix) (2006)
02 Imani as Citizen Strange-Strange (2001)
03 The Pharcyde feat. Black Thought-Network (Scram Jones Remix) (2001)
04 Booty Brown-Dorothy (Poor Dorothy Mix) (2002)
05 The Pharcyde-Passin’ Me Cumbia (DJ DUS Remix) (2008)

Ghostface Killah ft. Black Thought “In The Park”

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

All indicators point to this being a cut from Ghostface’s latest album Apollo Kids. It’s a great cut: the beat slams hard like ’87 era productions used to, and that’s the perfect backdrop for Ghost and Black Thought to wax poetic over rap’s halcyon days. Sergio Valente jeans, using coins to weigh down styluses, Uni markers, Rustoleum, Memorex tapes, Kangol bucket hats, the Tuff Crew, Run DMC, Cazals, shelltops, leather bombers, Public Enemy all get mentioned. Not to take anything away from Ghost’s verse and his invocation of the Cold Crush brothers and MC Shan on the refrain, but Black Thought houses this joint, delivering a flurry of Philadelphia-specific memories, making sure that listeners are reminded about Schooly D, Lady B., Camden’s Krown Rulers, Jazzy Jeff, Cash Money Marvelous, and Steady B, among others. If this is any indication of the quality of the rest of the album, then Apollo Kids is looking promising. — Thun

The Roots

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

For those not in the know, The Roots are set to drop their 11th album (9 studio) on Tuesday titled “How I Got Over.” Like many, I took a sneak peak of this album and overall I’m happy with the results. I won’t say it’s their best work, but certainly not their worst by any means. The Roots are the epitome of quality hip-hop and I suggest you give this release your attention and support. The album lacks Black Thought zonin, features a few too many cameos and I still miss Malik B, but they stay consistent as they’re known to do. Greatest hip-hop band of all-time? Fuck yeah. Here are some videos just to get you ready for this Tuesday. Peace to ?uest. –Philaflava

Sounds Like The 90s Vol. 13 (2010)

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Nope, you’re reading the title right. If I’m being completely honest here, the real reason for the delay was I was just waiting on some good music in 2010. Being that most of the tracks I select for compilations are current I didn’t just want to throw something together and label it SLT9s.

For the past two years I’ve taken ample time in creating this series. In selecting the right tracks, to sequencing them, to finding the best quality mp3s available. I still don’t know if there has been an abundance of dope music in ’10, but there is there plenty of time left. We’re always open to suggestions so continue to leave comments or shoot us an email with the goodness.

Peace to my T.R.O.Y. fam for helping me gather some of these joints. Special shouts go to to Strategy, Blake Reznik, Meyhem Lauren, Ide, Skavenger,Verge, Open Mike Eagle and Dirt Dog for the ill cover. Enjoy Volume 13 and stay tuned for plenty more to come in 2010. –Philaflava
