Saafir: The Will To Walk (Donate To Help)

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

Last month we posted about Saafir and his current situation told by friend Shock G and reported by Bay legend Davey D.  Yesterday Saafir reached out to T.R.O.Y. blog member Markshot and asked if we’d be kind enough to spread the word. Saafir has given many of us classic memories throughout the years. Whether it was the infamous battle on KMEL vs. Casual, the GSW collabos or my personal fav Boxcar Sessions–the man is deserving of our support.

Just yesterday this is what Saafir had to say on his Facebook page.

“Peace! The website is to raise funds for Saafirs surgery and treatment is now online…the address is WWW.TOSTANDAGAIN.ORG… Please donate to help Saafir complete his spinal surgery and treat, whatever you can donate will be a TREMENDOUS help. If we can get it to 250,000 people and all only donated one dollar, he would have the treatment he needs and deserves. Thank You for your well wishes and help.”

Whether its donating or spreading the word, you owe that much to this man to invest a minute of your life and help out the cause.

Please click on this link WWW.TOSTANDAGAIN.ORG and follow the instructions. Peace to Shaft Sizzle, you will walk again!

Announcement: T.R.O.Y. Forum Update

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

Many of you wondering what’s up with the Google warning you receive when on Philaflava.com . Let me assure everyone that the redirecting file that was causing a false positive has been removed. Google has been advised of this and they’re in the process of reviewing the request and removing the message. You more than likely will receive this message using Firefox. Again, let me repeat, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with the forum. There is nothing malicious and currently no malware issues. We will continue to monitor these issues but unfortunately the Google warning is something we cannot control. The problem has been resolved and I wanted to let everyone know they’re safe to post at this time. You were always safe to post.

As for the T.R.O.Y. blog, well Thun and I are cooking up some marvelous shit as well as the other bloggers here. Summer is over and its time to take other blogs back to school (again).

Thank you for your continued support.

Editor’s Note: We’re working out some kinks like a hot comb, and we’ll be back to posting soon. We appreciate your patience. In the meantime, RIP to Gil Scott Heron. He is not the godfather of hip hop but he is a tremendous influence and a great artist in his own right.

Our Top 25 Posts Since Our Re-Launch

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

Nell Carter called and she wants a break–so she’s getting it! Starting tomorrow your favorite blog is going on Spring Break or as some of our bork friends would say Study Week.

It’s been a minute since recharged our batteries but we fully intend to do just that. On May 2nd we’ll be back in full effect bringing you daily dopeness and fading your F5 button with the quickness.

Luckily we’ve done over 1500 posts for you to marinate on, but we even put together a Top 25 since our re-launch to help you out. If you’ve forgotten or missed some of the posts throughout the years, take time to get reacquainted. The full list appears after the jump.

Please note that while we’re taking a little break our forum isn’t. Daily discussions, requests threads and uploads will continue. More importantly we want to hear from you, the people we do this blog for. Tell us what you’d like to see starting May 2nd. All comments, requests and hate mail are appreciated. See you after the break and we oooooooooooooooooooout! (more…)

Radio Shows?

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

Here at TROY many of our contributors were at one time or another the hosts/DJs of college radio shows. Naturally, we’re fans of mix shows, even if their overall popularity/influence has waned a bit in the era of Tumblr, mediafire, podcasts, and iTunes playlists. But nothing really competes with the spontaneity and rawness of a well-executed hip hop radio show. So, if you have a radio show/podcast  that can be streamed on the internet or downloaded and played, tell us about it in the comments section. In the meantime, check out Nitty Gritty Radio, a throwback-centered show that we heard about via Twitter.

Don’t be mad T.R.O.Y. is hiring

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

The T.R.O.Y. blog is looking to take on some new writers for 2011. If you have music to share or feel you’d be an asset to the blog, then let’s build. We’re also accepting music submissions, so if you are a musician and has music that “fits” our blog then definitely hit us up. If you’re a DJ who has some great mixes that would be ideal for this blog, send them our way and you’ll be credited for your work.

Stay tuned for another great year on T.R.O.Y.

Sorry, subscribers. The server crashed over the holidays. We got the site back up but then had problems with the feed. Now everything seems to be kosher and copasetic, yo. We haven’t disappeared. IF the site or feed is down in the near future, it is just because we’re testing things out, we promise! Stay tuned.

To Those Who Leave Comments On Old School Rap Videos On YouTube

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Try shutting the fuck up every so often.

Sometimes, informed viewers provide useful contextual information for videos. They drop little tidbits that are interesting to music nerds. On occasion the actual artist or someone involved in the production of the song or the filming of the video shows up to enlighten us. This level of information exchange was unheard of not very long ago. It’s a beautiful thing, really. Or, it could be a beautiful thing, if only these comments weren’t buried beneath hundreds of flippant remarks, usually echoing the same trite idea:

OMG! THIS SONG IZ SO INKREDIBLE! DEY DON’T MAKE GRATE RAPP MUZIK LYKE DIS ANYMORE! BAK IN DA DAYZ U HADD GRATE RAPPAZ LIKE LARRY LARR AND EGYPTIAN LOVER! ALL U C NOW IZ SOLJAH BOI N LIL WANE N ALL DAT COMMUSHUL CRAPP! LONG LIV DA OL SKOOL!

Ad nauseam. On EVERY old rap video filmed between 1979 and 2002, from Cool C “The Glamorous Life” to Run DMC “Rock Box” to Arrested Development “Tennessee” to Lost Boyz “Renee” to Jay-z “H To The Izzo.” (more…)
