Random VLS Drops: Big L – Devil’s Son (1993)

What a grimy, dirty, rough beat. What a hard track.

This track was supposed to be on Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous, but it was banned due to it was too much violent.

First thought that i have in mind before i click play is that amazing horns and those two Nas samples:
When i was twelwe i went to hell for snuffing Jesus” and “I’m waving automatic guns at nuns“.

I thought this track was produced only by Showbiz, but vinyl says it was co-op between Showbiz, Lord Finesse, Buckwild and Craig Boogie.

  1. Nah, it’s a Showbiz beat. He did the demo version that got him signed in ’92 and this one. Those producers are all the ones who did tracks for Lifestylez though.

And I think though it was also and probably mainly Columbia, L mostly decided not to include it because the single got enough attention and was getting dated by the time his album was supposed to drop.

This song was on the promo tape in ’94, as well as at least one of the vinyl pressings. His first single wasn’t gettin’ radio play though, that’s for sure.
